We bid farewell to John R. Hildebrand of Salem, Virginia, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on July 30, 2025 at the age of 99. John touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Raymond and Blanche Roberts Hildebrand; and his wife Thelma Jeter Shank Hildebrand. He is survived by: his brother David C. Hildebrand; his brother-in-law John M. Shank; his children, Martha Karen Hildebrand Sherwood (Robert), John Roberts Hildebrand, Jr. (R. Neal Fine), Sarah Jeter Hildebrand Caldwell (Gregory) and Caroline Shank Hildebrand Cochrane (James); his granddaughter Catherine Esterbrook Sherwood Hagan (Christopher); his children, Elizabeth Wampler Hildebrand Strasser (Joseph), Margaret Hildebrand Sherwood, Mary Claire Hildebrand Corron (Devin), Catherine Roberts Caldwell Short (George), James Hildebrand Cochrane and Julia Xian Shank Cochrane; and his great grandchildren, Sarah Catherine Hagan, Jacob Alexander Hagan, Tyler Marx Strasser, Madison Claire Strasser and Grant Richmond Strasser.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Salem Presbyterian Church.
