She was predeceased by: her parents, Hattie Icyphen Hale McGlothlin and Patton McGlothlin; her husband Ray Maxwell; her sons, Don Maxwell and Scott Maxwell; her siblings, Raymond Donald, Ralph, Faye, Mildred and Ruth; and her daughters-in-law, Sharon Maxwell Ayers and Regina Maxwell.

She is survived by: her sons, James R. Maxwell (Gail), Charlie L. Maxwell (Cathy) and Keith Maxwell (Robin); her daughter-in-law Sherry Maxwell; her sisters, Pauline Harrison and Margaret Ann Cochran (Danny); her sisters-in-law, Juanita Tatum, Shelby Maxwell and Gay Maxwell; and her adoptive daughter Terry Saul. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers Ruby's wish was for memorial donations to be made to Riverside EMC, 1920 Lucas St, Salem, VA 24153.
