He was predeceased by : his parents, John Eugene Layne and Edna Davis Layne; and his siblings, James Layne, Robert Martin Layne, Julian Layne, Frances Layne Washburn (Frank) and Ella Louise Daniel (Charles).

He is survived by : his wife Karlen Haislip Layne; and his sisters-in-law, Shirley Layne and Doris McKamey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
