We announce the death of James L. Bailey (Smithfield, Virginia), who passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 66. James will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Bailey and Ella Mae Bailey; his siblings, George Jones, Curtis Bailey, Ray Bailey, Bobby Bailey, Thelma Bailey and Ella Keller; his daughter Latoya Allen; and his brother-in-law Henry Keller.
He is survived by: his wife Edith Mae Bailey; his daughters, Michelle Allen of Forest Hill and Arkeisha Bailey; his siblings, Benjamin Bailey of Atlanta, Georgia and Bloise Bailey of Newport News, Virginia; his siblings-in-law, Latreese Edwards of Virginia Beach, Janet Bailey of Smithfield, Virginia and Thomas Eugene Allen of Suffolk, Virginia; and his grandchildren, Cheondra Bailey, Rico Eley, NyAsia Norman, Leon Dante Norman, Curtis Anderson and Desire Allen. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing was held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Shivers Funeral Chapel (12749 Courthouse Hwy, Smithfield, VA 23430). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, September 17th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
