He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Willis and James Alfred Brown; his siblings, Bette, Barbara, Billy and Jimmy; and his son John P. Brown III (Sarah Palamara).
He is survived by: his wife Miriam Jean Briggs; his daughter Kimberley Anderson (Stephen P. Anderson); his grandchildren, Aubrey Odom (William Odom), Jonathan Anderson (Heather Anderson), Abigail Anderson, Elijah Anderson, Micah Anderson and Paul Anderson; and his great grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin, Maisie Anderson, Willa and Soren Odom.
