He is survived by: his children, Jacqueline Palmer (Jerry), Maurice Black Jr. (Kimberly), Rose Scott (Walter), Dr. Candace Roney (Allen), Yolanda Alston and Clinton Gaylor; his grandchildren, Tiara Black, Jeffrey Hunter, Walter Scott Jr. (Carleena), Jerrise Palmer, Jaylon Roney, Janae Palmer, Madison Alston and Gerard Palms; his great grandchildren, Alyssa, Jeremey, Jordan McDougald and Carmen Roney; his sister Jonie; his siblings-in-law, Sally Florence Davis, Esther Black and Willie Dee Kitchen; and his niece Gracie Giles. He is also survived by his family, Maurice was much more than a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend.
Viewing was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Shivers Funeral Chapel (12749 Courthouse Hwy, Smithfield, VA 23430). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
