It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Roger Dean Atkins of Smithfield, Virginia, born in Ivor, Virginia, who passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Horace Edwin "Dee" Atkins and Thelma Jones Atkins; his grandparents, Rosa Joyner, Jack, Dewey and Claudine Jones; his wife Alice; his children, Horace "Evan" Atkins and Christina Atkins Showalter (Jeff); his grandchildren, Victoria Atkins (Tori), Layla Barnes (Jacob), Hannah Atkins, Clarissa Atkins, Dean Showalter and Bryson Showalter; his siblings, Edwin Atkins (Betsey) and Rose Stalnaker; and his caregiver Chrisy. He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21st 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Little's Funeral Home and Cremation Service (1515 S Church St, Smithfield, VA 23430). A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 22nd 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Tucker Swamp Baptist Cemetery (37527 Seacock Chapel Rd, Zuni, VA 23898).
