It is with great sadness that we announce the death of William M. Hooper (Smithfield, Virginia), born in Stumpy Point, North Carolina, who passed away on January 31, 2020, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was loved and cherished by many people including: his fathers, Alonzo Calvin Hooper and William Rebecca Meekins; his former wife Lois Elizabeth Johnson; his wife Marjorie Jane Jones; and his children, Mike Hooper (Liz), Debra Cutler (Andrew), Sidney Hooper (Missy), Steve Hooper (Lanae), Lisa Sumrak (Tom), Chris Hooper (Julia) and David Jones. He was also cherished by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

During that year, I learned to love and respect him as a sincere, compassionate and honorable human being. He later served as my Bishop in the Elizabeth City Ward just before I moved away to college. I grew to not only respect him but to love him. His was a special man and he has enriched the lives of many.”
