He was predeceased by: his parents, Obie Alpine Smith and Mattie Evelyn Edwards Smith; his wife Lucille Pershing Jefferson Smith; and his siblings, Gladys M. Bray, Mary E. Stowe, Dorothy W. Durham and Obie B. Smith.

He is survived by: his daughter Patricia Burton; his sister Joann Stowe; his grandchildren, Tammy Wilson (Sonny) and Kim Adkins; and his great grandchildren, Kristina Deal (Josh), Alisha Morrison (Jordan) and Amanda Adkins.

He experienced the Great Depression, World War II, The Vietnam War, The Civil Rights Movement, the Moon Landing, the creation of the internet, the 9/11 attacks, and the Covid-19 Pandemic all from his quiet tobacco farm in Ringgold, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice in remembrance of Billy.
