He was predeceased by: his mother Annie Covington Bennett; and his siblings, Edward Bennett, Freeman Bennett, Raymond Bennett and Arlene Reeve.

He is survived by: his wife Eleanora Craver Bennett; his children, Erik Welsh Bennett (Tammy), Dana Bennett Long (David) and David Hershel Bennett (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Whitney Bennett, Brandon Bennett and Anne-Greyson Long; and his brother-in-law Stuart Craver. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

While in rehab, he was struck down with COVID, from which he could not recover.
