He was predeceased by : his parents, John William Pike Thomson and Ada D. Thomson (Alexander); his brothers, William Emmett Thomson, Jon Ann Crow (Thomson) and George Linn "Wink" Thomson; and his son Russell David Jones.

He is survived by : his wife Shirley Thomson; his children, John Chandler Jones (Linda), Cynthia Gail "Cyndi" Scott (Thomson) and Gregory Scott Thomson; his daughter-in-law Christina Jones; his grandchildren, Jonathan T. Scott, Charles D. Jones, Gracelin A. Jones, Kailee A. Jones and Madelyn A. Jones; and his sisters, Patricia Alice "Pat" Thomson Hicks and Sharon Kaye (Thomson).

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Hull's Memorial Baptist Church (420 Enon Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22406). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 at 12:30 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 at the Sunset Memorial Gardens (3702 Loren Dr, Fredericksburg, VA 22408).
