He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his daughters, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner (Van) of Chapel Hill, NC and Jodi Darnell of Shipman, VA; his grandsons, Stephen Tanner and Corey Darnell; his brothers-in-law, Melvin Timmons and Vincent Timmons; and his nephews, Carlin A. Dempsey, Steve F. Dempsey, Jerry W. Perry, Lindsay T. Truslow, William C. Hicks and Phillip Hicks. He is also survived by numerous nephews; nieces; great-nephews; great-nieces.
