He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh McLaughlin and Joan McLaughlin; his uncle Ashton Godley; his brother Dennis Smith; and his close friend Sissy Johnson.
He is survived by: his daughter Brie Lawhorne (Jesse Bosserman); his grandchildren, Skylar, Isabelle and Willow; and his siblings, Katrina Tankersly, Beth McLaughlin and Frank Smith (Barbara). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
