She was predeceased by: her parents, Luther James and Cassie Lou Foster Sowder; her husband Melvin Elwood Johnson; her daughter Retta Kay Farrish (Johnson); her siblings, William "Willie" Luther Sowder, Albert "Buck" Charles, Clyde "Frankie" Franklin, Luther Eugene Sowder, Nellie Jewell Sowder Starks, Janet Marie Sowder Skeens, Betty Loraine Sowder Talley and Edna Mae Sowder Wingfield; her niece Helen Jean; and her nephew Michael.
She is survived by: her granddaughter Kristin Ann (Josh Cornwell); and her great grandchildren, Abel and Heath Cornwell.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 11th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church (406 W Frederick St, Staunton, VA 24401).
