He is survived by: his wife Elaine Frances Effinger; his children, Daphne Katherine Effinger-Bryan (Robbie Bryan) and John Robert Effinger; his stepdaughter Maddie Mollie Preston-Wantz (Jack Wantz); his sister Elizabeth Anne Bryan (Mike Bryan); and his pet Marcus.

“I just learned of COL Effinger's passing and wanted to express my condolences. I worked with Craig when he was an LTC in the 3rdMIBn as a Contractor responsible for a radar system on ARL. This was early 2003 and it was COLD. We had a huge challenge keeping this radar working, it was in service since 1996 and we were up against some critical timelines. I also had a chance to meet him again at TACOM where he gave me a lot of encouragement. I valued his friendship, he was a true professional.”
