He was predeceased by : his parents, Samuel Albert Thomas Jr. and Ruby Lucinda Thomas; and his sister Anna Thomas Furr of Staunton. He is survived by : his wife Rebecca M. Thomas; his children, Julia Marston Thomas of Georgia and David Samuel Thomas of Charlottesville; his siblings, Sherry Tunstill (James) of Decatur, Kay Mathis (Matt) of Lithonia, Diane Belk (Heath) of Lexington and Sammye Swing of Christiansburg; and his sister-in-law Susan Mowery. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
