He was predeceased by: his parents, William Warren Thornton and Mary Beckwith Thornton; and his son Randall John Thornton. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Jean Heeter; his children, Michael Thornton, Isaac Thornton, Martina Lynn Thornton, Michelle Thornton and Dana Tharpe; and his siblings, Robert Thornton and Janet Orr.
