He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Gillis and Lessie Scott Gillis; his siblings, Lois Dague, Dean Darby, Lawton, Granville and Joe Gillis; and his stepfather Fred Simpson.
He is survived by: his wife Juanita Runyon Gillis; his daughter Glynda D. Arrington (Mike) of Suffolk; his stepdaughter Christine Dotson (Kevin) of Suffolk; his sister Margie Blankenship (Gene); his grandchildren, Doyle Gillis III (Susan), Stephen Arrington (Savannah), Rebecca McGrath (Trey), Ashlin Dotson (David), Leia Dotson (Kenny), Addyson Dotson, Addison and Evan Renee Winter; and his great grandchildren, Micah, Levi, Noah McGrath, Doyle "Odin" Gillis IV, Annabelle, Chandler and Brandon Snelgrove.
