He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Moody Hill and Sally Jane Smith Hill; his wife Eva Mae Hill; his siblings, Mildred Link, Wilma Golden, Barbara Cook, Maggie Saunders, Ruth Moore, Frank Hill, Billy Hill, Colonel Hill, Dee Hill and T. W. Hill; and his son-in-law John Provost.

He is survived by: his children, Eva Ann Heal, Donna Kay Provost, James Richard Hill, Jr. (Sharon) and Ira Kenny Hill (Karen). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
