He was predeceased by: his parents, Aaron Smith Brown and Rebecca Brown. He is survived by: his wife Vivian Costley Brown; his children, James S. Brown Jr., Cynthia R. Brown of Indian Head, MD and Antonio T. Brown (Virginia) of Atlanta, GA; and his sister Pearlie Carroll of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
