He was predeceased by: his parents, John Edward, Sr. and Mildred Mitchell (McPherson); his wife Iva Scott Mitchell; his brothers, Robert Mitchell and Albert Mitchell; and his former wife Veronica Elliot.
He is survived by: his children, Veronica, Tracy Mitchell, John Mitchell III (Sheri), Kevin Mitchell (Crystal) and Troy Mitchell (Mishayla); his brothers, Maurice Mitchell (Norine), Alton Mitchell, Hannable "Sonny" Weldon and LaShawn Barnes (Quinton); and his caregivers, Brenton Lassiter, Dyesheka Hawk and William Whitley. He is also survived by 15 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.
