He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Askew Nelms; his children, Michael Byron Nelms and Mary Ellen Nelms; and his sister Faye Copeland.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, November 4th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Holly Lawn Cemetery (1525 N Main St, Suffolk, VA 23434).
