Vella Lou Thompson Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Vella Lou Thompson of Tazewell, Virginia, who passed away on March 31, 2026, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Johnny William Thompson and Bertha Mary Dunford Thompson; her son Jerry Allen Gilbert; her son-in-law Ricky Kiser; her daughters, Barbara Whitt and Crystal Gayle Gilbert; and her brother Doug Thompson.

She is survived by: her children, Tommy Lee Gilbert, Jr. (Billie Jean McClanahan) of Vansant, VA, James Gilbert (Sarah Lambert) of Raven, VA and Judy Kiser (Dean) of Lebanon, VA.; her siblings, Linda Thompson of Richlands, VA, Mary Ann Thompson of Roanoke, VA. and Terry Thompson; her grandchildren, Savannah Gilbert, Christian Dalton Gilbert, Matthew Gilbert, Deana Kiser, Timmy Hunnell, Thomas Gilbert, Davin Corey Kiser Belcher and Michael Kiser Stacy; and her great grandchildren, Kastay "Cassie" Leab, Waylon Stacy Kiser, Zachariah Kiser Belcher, Alianna Gilbert and Jelena Gilbert Vicente A.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home to assist in her funeral expenses.
