He was predeceased by: his parents, Harrison Steele and Louise Vance Steele; his wife Mildred Lawson Steele; and his siblings, Acy, Dave, Anse, Boyd, Estil Steele, Ethel Wimmer and Myrtle Shirley.
He is survived by: his children, Betty Jean Short of Coeburn, VA, Harrison Wayne Steele (Kay) of Coeburn, VA and Johnny Darrell Steele (Barbara) of Bluefield, WV; and his sister Rosa Gabriel of Greenwood, NY. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
