He was predeceased by: his parents, Coy Gordon Karnes and Berta Witt Karnes; his wife Erna Hohmann Karnes; and his siblings, W. Kenneth Karnes, Margaret M. Karnes and Evelyn Obenchain.
He is survived by: his son Frank Gordon Karnes; and his sister Mary "Dot" Childress. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
