He was predeceased by: his wife Sylvia Jean Grubbs; and his parents, Joe Grubbs and Sarah Grubbs. He is survived by: his children, Cheryl Wood (Philip) and Ray M. Grubbs, Jr. (Margaret); his sisters, Jane Plunkett (Henry) and Vickie Muse (James); and his siblings-in-law, Tom Fernatt and Barbara Harris (Dennis). He is also survived by five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren.
