He was predeceased by: his parents, Alva Holland and Mary Ocie Matney (Scott); his wife Betty Lou (Edwards); his son-in-law Seth Peters; and his siblings, Ellen "Sis" Arrington, Sonny Matney, Ellis Matney, Tom Matney and Carl "Mook" Matney.

He is survived by: his children, Kennith Matney (Sallie) of Christiansburg, VA and Regina Peters of Bluewell, WV; his brother Paul Matney (Ilene) of Haysi, VA; his grandsons, Justin Dunford, Jordan Peters, Kennith Ryan Matney (Rebecca), Christopher Matney and Matthew Peters; and his great grandchild Weston Kennith Matney. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
