He was predeceased by: his parents, Ethel Hammons and Leonard Hipkins; and his siblings, Peggy Jean Hipkins Crisco and Donnie Hipkins. He is survived by: his wife Alice Fay Hipkins; his children, Margie Hipkins Brown (late Steve L. Brown) of Sandston and Melvin Lee Hipkins of Crewe; his grandchildren, Joshua Hipkins (April Bartoe Hipkins) of Green Bay, VA and Jamie Connor Brown of Sandston; his great grandchildren, Lillyann, Samuel and Lauren Hipkins; his niece Elizabeth Ann Hipkins; his brothers, Lucky and Marvin "Pumpkin" Hipkins; and his stepdaughter Alice Cullotco.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31st 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Blackstone Chapel of Joseph McMillian Funeral Homes (1826 Cox Rd, Blackstone, VA 23824). A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 at the Crewe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Baptist Church, 57 Merryman Dr., Victoria, VA 23974, in Melvin's memory.
