He was predeceased by: his mother Mildred Thornton Gilreath; and his sister Barbara Ann. He is survived by: his sons, Gene E. Thornton, Jr. (Tonya Thornton) of Chesapeake, VA and Terrence L. Thornton (Virginia Thornton) of Norfolk, VA; his grandchildren, Marcus Thornton, Genelle Thornton, Nigel Thornton, Charles Roberts and Tasha Roberts; his great grandchildren, Sanai Thornton, Kalani Thornton and Masai Thornton; and his stepchildren, Charles McLean and Detra Littlejohn. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
