He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Jackson Brooks, Sr. and Annie Tetterton Brooks; and his wife Mary Brinn Brooks. He is survived by: his sons, Howard E. "Eddie" Brooks, Jr. (Anne) and Keith Eric Brooks (Dayla); his grandchildren, Emily Phillips (Wayne) and Marc Neppl (Casie); his great grandchildren, Shawn, Conner, Ashley, Joe Joe and Nathan; and his sisters, Lois Slade, Elva Respess, Nelva Swinson and Patsy Rose. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
