He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Custis Mapp and Virginia Blair Alfriend Mapp; and his siblings, Virginia "Jinsy" Mapp Richardson, Anne "Nancy" Mapp Ketner and Richard Custis Mapp, Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Betty England Fox; his children, John "Jay" Alfriend Mapp, Jr. (Cindy), Thomas Fox Mapp and Ashby Mapp Moss; his grandsons, Jared, John Mapp, Warren and Trent Moss; and his friend Delores Whitehurst. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
