He was predeceased by: his parents, John, Sr. Shirley and Mary E. Forbes Shirley; and his brother Evan L. Shirley. He is survived by: his wife Susan M. Shirley; his children, Susan Gail Slocum (Jimmy) and Mickey C. Shirley (Teresa); his half-sister Mary Katherine Johnson (Rick); and his stepsisters, Claudia and Susan. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
