He was predeceased by: his wife Frances; and his daughter Kathy. He is survived by: his parents, William Hanley and Bertha Hanley; his children, Michael Hanley (Debra), Barbara Taliaferro (Alan) and Tom Hanley (Gail); and his grandchildren, Kelsey Hanley, Michael Hanley, Allison Taliaferro, Paige Taliaferro, Tripp, Mia, Brock Hanley, Katie, Shane and Will Hanley.

“We moved to Florida in 2016 and I saw on FOX and Friends this morning about a series premiering on Fox Nation about lost ships of WW II. One of the ships that will be featured on that series will be the USS INDIANAPOLIS. I remember Joe telling me of the time he had the bow shot off one of the ships he was on in WW II which was that ship! That inspired me to look up my old friend and I’m sorry to see that he has passed on. We had some good times at Mary’s for breakfast with some great folks.”
