He was predeceased by: his parents, William A. Cox, Jr. and Susan Hume Cox. He is survived by: his friend Gordon Setter; his former wife Patricia J. Bristor; his brother Frank H. Cox III (Patricia B. Cox); his nephew Adam H. Cox; his wife Jeanne Evans-Cox; his daughter Sarah Cox (Juan Botero); his grandchildren, Amelia and Pablo; his daughter Margaret Cox (Jeremy Wickman); his grandchild Finley; his brother Michael Cox (Alma); his nephew Eddie (Shannon); his brother John "Mo" Cox (Adrienne); his niece Amy Cox (Patrick Bayer); his nephew Kevin Cox (Jessica); his stepsons, Jimmy and Jeff Evans; his friends, Brian, Pat Donnelly, Bobby and Mary Jo Steinhilber; and his caregivers, Arlene, Liza, Ellen and Cecile. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
