He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Tonkin and Anna Tonkin (Petrone); and his friend Hal Wilson. He is survived by: his friends, Michele O'Brien, Eddy Claros, Tom, Lisa Crossan, Mark Johnson, Kristen Anderson-Fleming, Sesar Aleman and Connor Ifft.
Still operating in Washington, the program is now known as the Workshops Foundation, whose graduates number over 300, 000 young Americans and international students. In 1975, Dr. Tonkin was awarded the Americanism Medal of the Valley Forge Foundation.
