He was predeceased by: his parents, Clayborne Spears and Christine Spears (Washington); his sister Rosa Spears; and his great grandchild Christopher Spears. He is survived by: his wife Mary Elizabeth Spears (Rose); his daughters, Cheryl Christine Washington, Mary Lou McCarthy, Judy Elaine Bonds (Cephus), Jessica Dale Washington (Rodney) and Dr. Charlene Elizabeth Spears; his grandchildren, Devonna Porter, Chad (Leandra), Andre Jr., Jordan Hill, Jeremy, Harry Jr., Corey, Lane Brown, Jacinda Chambers (Desmond), Judaya Bonds, Brock Winfrey, Jr., Chanise Washington and Taylor Burton (Quennel); his siblings, Elsie Coles and Rudolph Donald "Doo" Spears; and his niece Pam Woods (William). He is also survived by great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Monday, November 24th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Oak Grove Baptist Restoration Ministries (223 Oak Grove Church Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980).
