The family announces the passing of Joan Frances (Kraniak) Crotty (Waynesboro, Virginia) on September 25, 2026. Joan, born on June 22, 1931 in Hempstead, New York, was part of many shared moments and relationships throughout life. She was predeceased by: her parents, Helen Kraniak and Stephen J. Kraniak; her brother Peter J. Kraniak; and her husband Lieutenant Colonel Richard E. "Dick". She is survived by: her children, Richard C. Crotty of Colonel, U. S, Kathleen Crotty-Clark (Eric) of Master Sergeant, U. S, Warren Crotty (Anne) and Susan Howe (Richard); her grandchildren, Lieutenant Colonel James S. Crotty (Melissa), Christopher Clark (Julie), Brandon Crotty, Connor Howe (Amanda), Stephen Clark, Joanna Crotty, Dillon Howe, Megan Elliott (Braxton), Janet Crotty and Michaela Clark; and her great grandchildren, Brooke, Kaylin Crotty, Jack Clark, Reagan, Raleigh Elliott and Rodney Howe. She is also survived by her four children, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and the generations of family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the McDow Funeral Home (1701 W Main St, Waynesboro, VA 22980). A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (301 Sheppard Ct, Waynesboro, VA 22980).
