He was predeceased by: his parents, Edna R. Nicely and Nathan M. Nicely; and his sisters, Stella Sorrels and Annie Nicely. He is survived by: his wife Pauline Nicely; his sons, Jay Nicely (Bobbi), Neal Nicely and Larry Nicely; his grandchildren, Stephen Nicely Jr. (Meredeth Lawhorne), Ashley Nicely-Fix (Scott), Whitney Nicely (Mark), Haley Morris (Chris) and James "JT" Talley (Samantha); his great grandchildren, Elijah Johnson, Ben Morris, Alex Morris and Addison Fix; and his brother Don Nicely.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes & Crematory (618 W Main St, Waynesboro, VA 22980). A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Augusta Memorial Park (1775 Old Goose Crk Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980). A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Hermitage Presbyterian Church (46 Hildebrand Church Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980).
