He was predeceased by: his parents, Van Emanuel Ashby and Dorothy Wallace Ashby; his brothers, Forest Lee Ashby, Harrold Ashby, Eugene Ashby Sr., Edward Lee Ashby, Lawrence Ashby, Albert Ashby Sr. and Lloyd Jones; his grandchildren, Carlos Ashby, Tuwana Ashby, Frederick Hill, Jr., Yolanda Ashby, Carl Ashby III, Sherrick Hill, Nikki Gusman and Drucilla Ashby; his great grandchildren, CJ, Day'von, Cavon, Ja'Nyia, Amaya, Isaiah, Jalia, Leon, Sa'Mariya, Azzarrah and Zaden; his great great grandchildren, Avari Marie and Nevaeh Love; his sister-in-law Olivette Bassett; his nieces and nephews, Linda Moore, Yvonne Ashby Coates, Abby Brown, Andrea Bassett, Alethia Bassett, Eugene Ashby, Jr. and Tyrone Johnson; and his close friends, Rosa Wallace, Maud Barlow, Dean Peace, Jeremiah Cuffee, Adolphus Richards, Cleveland Morton and Paul Jordan.
He is survived by: his wife Audrey Barlow Ashby; his child Debbra Ann Ashby; the father of his child David Ashby (Lisa) of Chesterfield; and his children, Maude Ashby Seldon of Charles City, Sonja Ashby-Hill of Richmond and Carl Ashby, Jr. (Lystra) of New Kent, Virginia.
Viewing will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church (233 Barlow Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
Carl Sr. proudly served as a Master Gardener with The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and retired after 26 years.
