We announce the death of Fred Alvan Altizer of Williamsburg, Virginia, who passed away on October 20, 2026, at the age of 87. Fred will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Leslie Altizer and Eliza Catherine Altizer; his sisters, Virginia (Raymond Hankins), Edith (Kyle Robinson), Anna (Louie Barrett) and Marcella Sweet; his children, Jo Ann Altizer and Frankie Lane Altizer; and his granddaughter Devin Francis.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Josephine Boyd Altizer; his daughter Laura Lynn; his children-in-law, Kirk Burcham and Tonya Altizer; his brothers, John (Joan Altizer) and James (Elaine Altizer); his brother-in-law James Sweet; his grandchildren, Michael, Keisha Derry, Anthony, Alyssa Burcham, Steven, Rebecca Burcham, Zane, Cara Massie, Zachary Massie (Madison Anderle) and Hailee Burcham; his great grandchildren, Avery Borden-Burcham, Joshua Burcham, Hayden Burcham, McKenna Burcham, Noah Radcliffe, Kimber Tooley, Grayson Francis and Alyssa Peters; and his pet Lulu.
Visitation was held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church (1042 Penniman Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185). A celebration of life was held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the same location.
