She was predeceased by: her parents, Rev. Joseph I. Brown and Hazel M. Brown of York County, VA.; her husband Booker T. Johnson Jr.; her children, Mark Johnson and Delma Street; and her brother Gene Brown.
She is survived by: her children, Jaime Johnson (Erica), Jessica Bartlett, Cathy Folorunso, Cynthia Taswell, Michael Parker, Wheeler Tazewell Jr. and Mitchell Tyler; her grandchildren, Lynette, Timberly, Carlisa (Leo), Ashley, Amonteh and Teora; her great grandchildren, Sincere, Nicere, Dwayne Jr., Benji and Devi; and her nieces and nephews, Alexander (Pete), James (Robin), Brenda (Melvin), Gene Jr. (Pat), Jeaneen and Javier. She is also survived by relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church (233 Barlow Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Joyce worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and later retired from Eastern State Hospital.
