He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Bateman and Rusha Holbrook Bateman; and his siblings, Thelma, Charles Ervin, Ulysses, Garland, Robert and Virgil.
He is survived by: his wife Rudell Stallard Bateman; his daughters, Carol Roberts (Eugene) and Robyn Bateman (Robby Collins); his grandchildren, Amanda Edwards, Timothy Roberts, Kimberly Roberts, Joshua Roberts and Alex Boggs; his great grandchildren, Julie, Alissa, Desiree and Owen; his great great grandchild Penelope; and his siblings, Imogene Gilliam, Carolyn Southworth and Fred Bateman. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Sturgill Funeral Home (1621 Norton Rd SW, Wise, VA 24293). A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 12th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel (1621 Norton Rd SW, Wise, VA 24293). A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 12th 2025 at the Laurel Grove Cemetery (4812-4850 VA-74, Norton, VA 24273).
