He was predeceased by: his parents, Habern Cress and Carrie Holbrook Cress; and his siblings, Carl Cress, Kenneth Cress, Don Cress and Peggy Abernathy.
He is survived by: his siblings, Billy Ray Cress (Debbie) of Wise and Charlotte Collins (Gene) of Roanoke; his son Mike Cress (Karen) of Hartwell, Georgia; and his granddaughter Allison Cress of Nashville, TN..
Visitation was held on Monday, December 1st 2025 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Sturgill Funeral Home (1621 Norton Rd SW, Wise, VA 24293). A funeral service was held on Monday, December 1st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel (1621 Norton Rd SW, Wise, VA 24293). A graveside service was held on Monday, December 1st 2025 at the Wise Cemetery (201 Church St NW, Wise, VA 24293).
