She was predeceased by: her husband Frank B. Sands; her parents, Henry C. Short and Laura Riddle Short; and her siblings, Forrester Short, Vernon Short, Maudie Lee Short, Florence Yeary and Lena Lawson.

She is survived by: her daughter Linda S. Sands Robinette (Monroe Robinette) of Wise, Virginia; and her grandchildren, Nathaniel M. Robinette of Chattanooga and Laura E. Robinette of Abingdon. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
