She was predeceased by: her parents, Moody Jones and Betty Smith Jones of Virginia; and her husband John Vaden McDowell, Sr.. She is survived by: her children, Pam Shirley, Melissa Bailey (Billy) and John V. McDowell, Jr. (Amy); her grandchildren, Jason (Gina), Amanda, Trace, Johanna, Breanna and Bryce; and her great grandchild Noah.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Indian River Baptist Church, 1600 Laurel Ave, Chesapeake, VA 23325.
