She was predeceased by: her father Dr. Walter Gant of Nashville, TN; and her parents-in-law, Howard P. Short and Shirley D. Short of Smithfield. She is survived by: her husband Forrest P. Short of Smithfield, VA; her mother Barbara Gant; her stepdaughter Ainsley L. Short; her sisters, Cindy Ball and Patricia Bentley; her siblings-in-law, Priscilla Osterhouse and Mason Ball; her niece Barbara Lee Ball; her nephews, Robert Lee Ball, Michael Lee Bentley and Austin Lee Bentley; and her pets, Harley and Mittens.

In lieu of flowers, Jean requested contributions be made to the Northside Christian Church Children's Ministry.
