She was predeceased by: her parents, Dewey Matthews and Letha; and her siblings, Leo Matthews, Donald Matthews, Genell Hyman, Kathleen Poston, Juanita Player and Vicky Buchanan.
She is survived by: her husband Major Gary Pounder of Yorktown; and her daughters, Kristen Kennedy of Yorktown, Katrina Pounder of Grenada and Ashley Pounder of Houston, Texas.. She is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Amory Funeral Home (410 Grafton Dr, Yorktown, VA 23692). A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the Wow Church (5956 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA 23605).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Joyce's name to Samaritan's Purse, or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
