He was predeceased by: his parents, James Tilton Hopson and Eva Louise Hopson. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Hopson; his children, Russell W. Hopson (Ericka), Frank Thomas (Faith) and Brian Thomas (Monica); his grandson Desmond Freeman; his sister Sandra Castine (Charles); his aunts, Della Russell and Rose Hopson; and his children, Ruben Lopez (Taneesha) and Jenee White (Jason). He is also survived by other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
