It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rita B. Hilliard (Newport, Vermont), who passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Though her name may fade from the lips of time, the imprint Rita leaves upon the hearts of her loved ones remains eternally vivid — a testament to the depth of her spirit and the richness of her legacy.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Boulanger and Gwen Boulanger (Gilson); and her husband Warren Hilliard. She is survived by: her children, JD Hilliard of New Mexico and Joni Surprenant of Massachusetts; and her sister Katie of Florida. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rita's name made be made to Western Mass Hospital in Westfield MA for the incredible care, attention and love that Rita received there.
