He is survived by: his wife Ruth Schroeter (Klecka); his daughter Elizabeth Courtney (Zephan Courtney); his grandchildren, Josephine and William Courtney of Wolcott, VT; his brother Walter Schroeter; his children, Wendy Walden (Schroeter) and Robert Schroeter; his sister Clare Johnson (Schroeter); and his siblings' children, Bruce Johnson, Jennie Richards (Johnson) and Christopher Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org.
